If you grew up in a household like mine, you were told to get a good education so that you could get a good job and have better opportunities in life.

And we dutifully obeyed.

Millions of Americans went in quest of the coveted college degree with promises of a future filled with brighter days and fewer financial woes. We imagined ourselves fulfilled with our work and obtaining middle class status symbols — a luxury car, family vacations, and peace mind.

Well, that’s not what happened.

We went to college and found out that the price tag had increased exponentially from the days of taking on part-time work to get through school. Our generation had no choice but to stare down student debt to pursue a degree.

In total, American college and graduate students amassed almost $2trillion in student loan debt.

And as we are breathing a sigh of relief at the announcement of the $10K — $20K student debt cancellation, ushered in by President Biden, we’re still grumbling under our breaths.

Why did it take so long?

$10,000 that’s all!?

Only the federal loans?
